Caring for patients with infections
Sometimes it may be necessary to nurse patients with additional precautions if they are known to have an infection or are more susceptible to infections. This may involve you being moved into a different bed space or being nursed in a room of your own. Staff may also be required to wear aprons and gloves when they are looking after you.
If you have any concerns or questions please speak to the nurse or midwife looking after you. We would also ask that visitors speak to the nurse or midwife in charge, who can advise them about any precautions that they may need to be undertaken when visiting. Generally good hand hygiene on entering and before leaving the room is all that is required. The wearing of protective clothing i.e. aprons and gloves is not normally required by visitors.
